Made by the Isthmus Brewing Company out of Silverdale in Auckland. I hadn’t heard of them before seeing this on the shelf, so thought I would give it a go. This beer uses four different American hops: Simcoe, Amarillo, Citra, and Columbus, so I was expecting it to be hoppy. I was not disappointed.
On the nose immediately you get hops, as you would expect, even at a distance from the pouring of it. Once you get over this blast fruit and citrus notes start to come through. The taste is full of bitter hops with a subtle mango flavors and malt in the background for good measure. The finish is bitter with hoppy goodness, leaving a pleasant aftertaste.
This is a well flavored IPA, strong on the hops but not overwhelming. The fruity notes add some complexity to it which gives it another element (or dimension to go with the name of the beer). Worth a go if you come across it.
