Beer Review: Epic Lupulingus

IMG_0004_crop

Epic put this beer out some months ago and I have had it sitting in the fridge waiting to try it, I probably should have gotten around to it sooner but here we are. I can’t say the name to save myself, but the Lupulingus is an Imperial IPA with more hops than the Hop Zombie, which is pretty impressive. The bottle has had some effort put into it, as usual. The label is in a metallic green with an indented steel chequer plate design. The shield above the logo has a lightning bolt in it, which suggests that this may be a precursor to the Thunder and Stone Hammer, in any case, it is certainly along those lines in flavor.

The nose is sweet with hops and a note of fruits. This carries on into the taste but with a initial bitter hit of hops, which gives way to the sweet hops again. The finish is sweet hops once again, but with the notes of fruits again that with the sweetness come across as a candied fruit flavor.

At 9% ABV this beer had a bit more of a kick than I was expecting, but drinking it you really wouldn’t realize it was that strong, I should have known better than to trust an Imperial IPA. It is very drinkable, too drinkable you could say, I wouldn’t, but I would caution. This is a very good beer as I have come to expect from Epic, if you see it you should give it a go if you haven’t already.
